Like a flower seed planted in a Dixie cup in daycare and given to Mom on Mother’s Day, the strategy for a profession kind of grew up with Kirsten Elstner.

Now, at 56, Elstner, whose maiden title is Bremmer, has taken her lifestyle experiences and established VisionWorkshops. It resulted from her rising up with trade learners from Brazil and Chili, creating at Fairview High School, performing with images from Allegheny University, a college semester in Europe, a post-faculty graduation backpacking trip to Australia and Southeastern Asia, and her very own startling senses of push and adventure.

Her vision for the program has received her the third Distinguished Alumni award from the Fairview Faculty Foundation.

Kirsten Elstner, left, formerly of Fairview, works with a student from the Tohono O'odham Native community on the U.S.-Mexico border in 2014. The project's mission was to help youth living on the border tell their stories with writing and photography.

She graduated in 1982 from Fairview and in 1986 from Allegheny.
